King Louis XVIII authorized by ordinance of 29 June 1819 the Israelite Consistory of Paris to build a synagogue. It was inaugurated in 1822. Built according to the plans of the architect Sandrié de Jouy, it can accommodate several hundred faithful and has galleries for women. Very quickly anomalies were found in the construction, and in 1848, the building threatened to collapse. The police closed the synagogue in 1850, which was demolished. A new synagogue was rebuilt on site according to the plans of the architect Alexandre Thierry (1810-1890) thanks to the donations of Baron James de Rothschild. It was inaugurated on April 1, 1852. The rite is Alsatian. Famous organists: Jean Alain, Marie-Louis Girod

E6 It is an instrument built towards the end of the nineteenth century. A bomb during the war destroyed the console, which was completely redone. The organ occupies only one of the two sides of the façade. Gutschenritter performed an overhaul in 1950 and the organ has not been the subject of work since. Jean Alain played regularly at this synagoge. The only known recording of him playing (a six-minute improvisation) was made here in 1938.
